McKenzie Smith graduated from Gonzaga University with honors in 2019. She is now a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). In 2011, McKenzie graduated with honors with dual bachelor degrees of science in nursing and psychology from Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho. Throughout her undergraduate training she managed the first transitional housing complex in the state of Idaho, for individuals with persistent and severe mental illnesses. McKenzie’s principle registered nurse experience includes: intensive care unit nursing, nurse education as a clinical nursing instructor at the community college level, and community mental health nursing at a large outpatient clinic.
While McKenzie practices allopathic psychiatry and prescribes medications, she has diverse interests in mental health care including: functional medicine, lifestyle medicine, epigenetics, and interpersonal neurobiology. Functional medicine, as it pertains to mental health is a personalized, systems-oriented model that empowers patients and practitioners to achieve the highest expression of health. McKenzie’s philosophy is to work in relation with her clients, to understand their unique circumstances and conditions that contribute to their distress and imbalance. This biochemical understanding, in combination with client’s needs, preferences, and goals will guide treatment decisions. The journey and definition of wellness is unique to every person. McKenzie believes everyone can and deserves to achieve whole body wellness. She is honored that you have considered her to support your mental health journey.
PMHNPs are uniquely prepared to provide holistic biopsychosocial care to clients across the lifespan. McKenzie is qualified and honored to care for the mental health needs of all ages but has a special interest in treating child and adolescent mental health issues.
Currently McKenzie is available to see patients at our SWMH office between the hours of 0900 to 5:00 pm every Wednesday and Thursday. Appointment times may vary at provider's discretion. Please call for current availability.
She possesses skills in supportive therapies. These include: medication education, compassion-focused psychoeducation, interpersonal psychodynamic themes, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing, parent-child interaction, and strength-based.
Medication management and combined medication management and psychotherapy.
